Fondazione Santagata, on behalf of the Residenze Reali Sabaude – Direzione Regionale Musei Nazionali Piemonte, is responsible for drafting a Strategic Plan for the enhancement of the gardens and outdoor spaces of the Residenze Reali Sabaude of Agliè, Racconigi, and Villa della Regina.
The activity is part of the project “Musei Verdi: i giardini delle Residenze Reali, laboratori di sostenibilità per le comunità”—funded under Law No. 77 of 2006—which focuses on historic gardens as a means of engaging communities, acting as drivers of socio-economic revitalization for the local area, and serving as privileged spaces/laboratories for experimentation and innovation in sustainable development.
Context
The Residenze Reali Sabaude, once the setting of court life and a testament to the power of the Savoy dynasty, are leisure spaces characterized by majestic parks and gardens. They are part of a system recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1997.
Objectives
The project aims to:
- assess previous enhancement initiatives carried out in the three residences involved;
- identify best practices in the enhancement of historic gardens;
- define a strategy for the enhancement of gardens and open spaces of the Residenze Reali Sabaude involved, aligned with the sustainability goals of the 2030 Agenda.
Expected Results / Impact
The activities aim to provide strategic guidance for the enhancement of the gardens of the Residenze Reali Sabaude involved, by developing sustainable, resilient, and long-term management models capable of addressing the challenges of climate change and acting as drivers of socio-economic well-being.
Through the development of the Strategic Plan, the goal is to promote broad and inclusive access, generating tangible benefits for local communities and the surrounding territory.
