Within the framework of the udpate of the Management Plan of the UNESCO Site “Ivrea Industrial City of the 20th Century”, Fondazione Santagata is supporting the Municipality of Ivrea in a community development process. This process includes a range of dissemination and awareness-raising activities focused on the contents and objectives of the Management Plan.

To emphasize the importance of this community development process, the outcomes of the activities are used as a tool for drafting the report and updating the Site’s Management Plan, as well as for preparing the 2025-2030 Management Plan update.

CONTEXT

Founded in 1908 by Camillo Olivetti, Ivrea represents a significant example of urban development and 20th-century architectural theories. These theories responded to industrial and social transformations, including the transition from mechanical to digital industries. Ivrea was a globally innovative experience in industrial production, with a particular focus on the well-being of local communities. Since July 2018, the site has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Management Plan of a Site coordinates activities aimed at understanding, protecting, and conserving the site. Its ultimate goal is cultural enhancement, ensuring the interpretation, public presentation, and both direct and virtual enjoyment of the site. The plan update process involves an analysis of the results achieved and a series of dissemination actions (community development) to encourage active participation from local communities and key stakeholders.

ACTIVITIES

Among the activities included in the community development process are:

  • The 2022/2023 edition of the Academy on UNESCO Designations and Sustainable Development (held from March 21 to 24, 2023).
  • Two workshops designed to support and complement the process of analyzing and updating the Management Plan, targeting the management structure and key stakeholders of the Site.
  • The Hey Ivrea! workshop, aimed at high school students in Ivrea to raise awareness about the cultural and social values of the UNESCO site “Ivrea, Industrial City of the 20th Century.”

CALL FOR IDEAS

With the aim of attracting young creatives to enhance the cultural and industrial heritage of the Site, in 2025, Fondazione Santagata will launch a call for ideas [more information available soon].
