Fondazione Santagata organizes the second edition of the MaB UNESCO Monviso Youth Camp, aimed at young people of the Monviso Transboundary Biosphere Reserve, from 8th to 12th July at Ostana, in the Po Valley
Context
The project is aimed at involving and training young inhabitants of the area with respect to issues related to sustainable development and the MaB Program.
The objective of the format is to allow the bottom-up activation of the local sustainable development process started with the recognition of the territory as a Monviso Transboundary Biosphere Reserve, through: the spread of awareness of value, uniqueness and cultural resources of the Reserve; the mobilization of girls and boys who have been stimulated to develop goals and actions, in the direction of sustainable development; the creation of a network of local operators and institutions, starting from the work group, interested in building a functional governance for the development of new projects.
Starting from the excellent results obtained, the working group is organizing the second edition of the MaB UNESCO Monviso Youth Camp 2019, which takes place from 8th to 12th July in the territory of the Monviso Transboundary Biosphere Reserve.
The Camp, aimed at boys and girls between 15 and 18 (Italians and French), has an important innovation: the presence of an International Biosphere Reserve host of the days.
Partner
The MaB UNESCO Monviso Youth Camp is a project born from the collaboration between Parco del Monviso (manager of the Monviso Transboundary Biosphere Reserve), Fondazione Santagata for the Economics of Culture and the Cooperative Caracol.
Impact
The project aims at strengthening the participation and involvement of local communities, in particular by increasing the awareness of young people under 20, from the more than 100 municipalities that are part of the UNESCO Reserve territory, about initiatives to promote sustainable practices, in the environmental, social and economic sectors.
The Camp is targeted with the UNESCO objectives of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), aimed at enriching knowledge and skills that empowers people to change the way they think and work for a sustainable future.
The MaB UNESCO Monviso Youth Camp, built in the first edition from 9 to 13 July 2018, has had considerable success both nationally and internationally, in particular:
– it was presented as a good practice during the XI Mountain Convention (Vatra Dornei, Romania, September 2018);
– it was presented as a good practice at the First Meeting of the Italian Biosphere Reserve, organized by the Ministry of the Environment and the UNESCO National Commission (Parco del Vesuvio, Municipality of Ottaviano. November 2018);
– it was presented as a good practice during Climathon 2018 (Turin, 27 October 2018);
