The Young Professionals Forum – Emerging skills for heritage conservation is an international platform designed by the Centro Conservazione e Restauro “La Venaria Reale” together with the most prestigious international organisations involved in heritage conservation. Launched in 2020 as part of the Centre’s Strategic Plan, the Forum aims to increase the skills of heritage professionals and open up to a wider and more diverse audience.

It involves more than 200 cultural heritage professionals from over 60 countries each year with one-to-one expert meetings, webinars and workshops, enriching a digital community of over 400 participants. Through a rich programme of online and in-presence activities, participants have the opportunity to learn best practices and discuss various issues related to cultural heritage and its preservation.

On 5 April 2023, the fourth edition of the Forum opened, focusing on the impact that leadership, strategy and networking skills have on the preventive conservation of cultural heritage.

Fondazione Santagata has been taking part in this initiative since its second edition and will be present again this year with a workshop that will be held on 9 and 10 May on the theme “Cultural Heritage in Syria: protection, conservation and recovery“.

Syria’s cultural heritage has in fact suffered serious damage during twelve years of conflict: during the workshop, after an introduction on the concept of Post-Conflict Recovery and the possible actions to be taken in scenarios that have faced crisis situations, the workshop will work on the case study of Syria, reflecting on the protection and conservation of its cultural heritage and its role in the country’s recovery.

The workshop will be divided into two parts: Alessio Re, Secretary General of the Foundation, will provide the participants with a theoretical framework and lead the group work. Giulia Avanza, Programme Manager for International Projects, will represent the Foundation at the Expert Meetings: appointments in which experts in the field make themselves available to YPF participants for one-to-one discussions, where they can share advice and their experience in the field.

For this edition of the Forum, scholarships will be awarded to young Syrian professionals in the framework of the cooperation project of the Piedmont RegionEnhancing skills for Heritage Conservation 2022-2023: Piedmont – Syria Knowledge Exchange“. To take advantage of this opportunity, you must register on the CCR Digital Lab, add the course “Young Professionals Forum, Emerging skills for heritage conservation” to your shopping cart, and use the code (personal and non-transferable) SYRIA_YPF2023: in this way you will have free access to the course!
