Professional association of Architects of the area of Turin promotes a professional course focused on World Heritage and on others UNESCO programs connected to cultural heritage.
This course, planned and coordinated by Alessio Re, supervisor of the area of UNESCO for CSS-Ebla, aims to give the partecipants appropriate fact-finding, methodological and operating tools applicable in the national and in the international context in order to work for UNESCO sites and territories.
The sites that are already part of UNESCO World Heritage list are 1031, and half of them are located in Europe and almost 51 in Italy. But there are also some territories that have a UNESCO designation, as the Man and the Biosphere Programme, the Geoparks network or the Creative Cities program that show similar management issues and planning opportunities.
Piedmont has four sites that are already part of the World Heritage list: Residences of the Royal House of Savoy, Sacri Monti of Piedmont and Lombardy, Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato and Prehistoric Pile dwellings around the Alps. All of them present a remarkable territorial and cultural value. There are also four more sites (Ivrea, industrial city of the 20th century, Lake Maggiore and Lake D’Orta lakelands, Citadel of Alessandria and Border area of Maritime Alps – “Les Alpes de la Mer”, together with France-) included in the Italian Tentative List for a future recognition, actually few of them are currently being examined. Turin is recognized as Creative City for Deisgn and Monviso area and the Ticino Valley are already UNESCO Biosphere Reserves.
The whole program and terms and conditions are available on the Professional association of Architects of the area of Turin website.
