Which financial instruments can favor economic sustainability of the artistic and cultural sector?

Between 2018 and 2019, we worked together with Nesta Italia on a research project, aiming at analyzing the Italian cultural context thanks to testimonies from 192 small and medium organizations interviewed, and at tracing an overview on the state of cultural organizations in Italy, both from a juridical-organizational point of view and from a financial one, evaluating in particular the use of repayable financial instruments.

The data revealed to need to promote the hybridization and diversification of the instruments available, in fact only 16% of organizations used repayable financial instruments; this is mainly due to a series of variables related to seasonal fluctuations, the uncertainty of the timing of revenue and unexpected costs.

The report is mainly aimed at:

  • – operators of small-medium enterprises operating in the artistic-cultural field;
  • – third sector;
  • – associations;
  • – cooperatives and other legal forms to which organizations in the artistic and cultural sector ca be traced;
  • – professionals in the creative sector who intend to start an entrepreneurial activity;
  • – management professionals who intend to collaborate with organizations in the cultural sector.

The report aims to be a practical tool, easy to consult and which can offer a concrete guidance, thanks to the various case studies based on experiences already tested in the area.
