Fondazione Santagata is the scientific partner of the course “Culture, Tourism and Creative Sectors for Sustainable Development and Decent Work”, promoted by the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC ILO). The programme focuses on the strategic role of culture, tourism and the creative sectors in sustainable development and the promotion of decent work.
Context
Culture, tourism and the creative sectors are today strategic fields for economic growth, social cohesion and the enhancement of local territories. When properly governed, they can generate qualified employment, promote inclusion and strengthen territorial sustainability.
The course is framed within this context and explores the relationship between culture and tourism, the role of creative assets and cultural heritage, and the management of destinations and cultural initiatives. Particular attention is devoted to the dimension of decent work, understood as a fundamental condition for equitable development: skills development, formalisation, social protection and social dialogue are addressed as structural elements of sectoral policies.
The programme combines policy perspectives, management tools and applied learning activities, with an interactive approach based on case studies. It also includes study visits in Turin and the Piedmont region, offering participants the opportunity to explore first-hand experiences of cultural regeneration and sustainable tourism.
Objectives
The course aims to:
provide conceptual and operational tools to integrate culture, tourism and the creative sectors into sustainable development strategies;
strengthen the capacity to design and manage policies and initiatives that combine economic performance, social value and territorial sustainability;
promote the integration of the decent work dimension within cultural and tourism policies;
encourage exchange between different experiences and contexts, also through study visits, case discussions and peer-learning sessions.
Expected Results / Impact
The course aims to:
enhance the skills of public officials, managers and practitioners in the development and integrated management of cultural and tourism policies;
improve the capacity of institutions to generate quality employment within the cultural and creative sectors;
promote governance models oriented toward economic, social and territorial sustainability;
strengthen dialogue between institutions, social partners and local development actors, contributing to a just transition in cultural and tourism systems.
