Fondazione Santagata, commissioned by Cubo Teatro / Il Cerchio di Gesso APS and within the framework of the Next Generation You programme – Guidelines for the organisational development of the third sector promoted by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, accompanied the organisation through an organisational strengthening pathway aimed at supporting its growth, autonomy and sustainability. The work included an integrated analysis of the organisation, processes, relationships, communication, economic dimension and digital maturity; the definition of a multi-year strategic plan; and the development of an operational proposal to translate the strategy into concrete actions. The pathway supported Cubo Teatro during an important repositioning phase: from an organisation recognised for its theatre programming and strong territorial roots to a company increasingly focused on multidisciplinary artistic production, national distribution, international openness and the diversification of revenue streams.

CONTEXT

Cubo Teatro is a cultural association founded in Turin in 2004 and professionally active since 2010 in the field of contemporary performing arts. It operates through production, programming, residencies, training and territorial development activities, with a strong focus on innovative languages and contemporary dramaturgy. Its operational centre is OFF TOPIC, a multidisciplinary venue co-conceived and co-managed by the organisation, and the organisation is among the founders of the Fertili Terreni Teatro network.

In recent years, Cubo has experienced significant growth in terms of artistic production, also thanks to the success of performances such as SID – Fin qui tutto bene, winner of the Premio INBOX 2023 and the Premio UBU 2023 for Best Actor Under 35. Recognition as a Production Company in Innovation Theatre for the three-year period 2025–2027 represents a strategic step requiring the strengthening of the organisation’s production, distribution, organisational and economic capacities.

OBJECTIVES

The project aims to support Cubo Teatro’s transition towards an organisational model increasingly focused on multidisciplinary artistic production, while preserving the heritage of programming, territorial roots and networking activities developed over the years.

The main objectives are:

  • strengthening the organisation’s cultural and artistic identity as a recognised and multidisciplinary production company;
  • enhancing production capacity by expanding the number, formats and types of productions;
  • developing local and national co-productions with relevant cultural organisations;
  • structuring an area dedicated to distribution, promotion and fundraising;
  • strengthening participation in national and international partnerships;
  • improving the efficiency and impact of programming, also through community workshops, participatory projects and educational activities;
  • assessing the feasibility of complementary spaces to OFF TOPIC for rehearsals, training, exhibitions and public presentations;
  • increasing independent revenues through courses, workshops, artistic services, consultancy and B2B activities.

EXPECTED RESULTS / IMPACT

The pathway resulted in a strategic and operational roadmap designed to accompany Cubo Teatro towards greater organisational, artistic and economic stability. The operational proposal integrates production, audience development, distribution, fundraising and international development, with the aim of consolidating Cubo as a multidisciplinary company capable of sustaining high-quality programming at national and international level.

The main expected results include:

  • increase in the number and variety of productions;
  • stronger presence within national and international circuits;
  • strengthening of Cubo’s reputation as an innovative company in the performing arts sector;
  • development of co-productions with local, national and progressively international partners;
  • development of dedicated skills in distribution, fundraising and European project design;
  • increase in applications to national and European calls;
  • growth of international partnerships and visibility on European platforms and networks;
  • greater audience engagement through workshops, participatory projects and co-creation activities;
  • diversification of revenues through courses, workshops, artistic services and consultancy;
  • progressive reduction of dependence on public funding alone.
