Fondazione Santagata aims to evaluate the economic impact of the Museo Egizio, as well as the social and cultural impact of the project “Museo Egizio A/R” (Round Trip).

Context

The study focuses on the Museo Egizio in Turin, a cultural excellence that, due to its collections and research activities, stands as one of the most important museums in Italy and worldwide. For several years, the Museum has been developing a strong interest in assessing its performance, both in strictly economic terms and through a broader perspective. The main objective is to increase the value and quality of its programming. To achieve this, it is essential to develop a medium-to-long-term strategy and a continuous evaluation process to measure the generated impact. While on one hand this involves adopting a new value scale to design more sustainable and diversified cultural practices, on the other hand it is equally crucial to perform ongoing measurement to verify progress toward established goals, supporting the institution’s accountability and increasing transparency toward the community.

Objectives

Fondazione Santagata will conduct an analysis of the economic impact of the Museo Egizio on the surrounding territory, building upon a similar study carried out in 2017. At the same time, an in-depth investigation will be presented on the overall social and cultural impact of the project “Museo Egizio Andata e Ritorno” (Museo Egizio Round Trip), an innovative educational initiative for schools located in the outer belt of the Province of Turin.

Project Phases

The economic impact assessment will include the following phases:
  • Analysis of information sources regarding consumer spending behavior;
  • Collection of visitor statistics for the year 2022 through a questionnaire;
  • Preparation and analysis of the Museum’s expenditure data;
  • Calculation of the impact and comparison with the study conducted in 2017.
The socio-cultural impact assessment will include the following phases:
  • Literature review to identify a suitable methodology for social impact analysis;
  • Identification and involvement of stakeholders;
  • Construction of an impact map through stakeholder interviews;
  • Calculation of the impact;
  • Development of a comprehensive presentation of the applied model.

Expected Results / Impact

At the conclusion of the activity, the following outputs will be delivered:
  • Economic impact assessment for the year 2022;
  • Report on the socio-cultural impact of the “Museo Egizio A/R” project;
  • Development of an impact assessment model applicable to other activities of the Museum.
