As part of the updating of the Management Plan for the UNESCO site “Ivrea, Industrial City of the 20th Century”, Fondazione Santagata supports the Municipality of Ivrea through a community development pathway. This pathway includes a variety of dissemination and awareness-raising activities regarding the contents and objectives of the Management Plan.
To emphasize the central role of this community development process, the results obtained from these activities serve as a tool used for drafting the assessment and update of the Site’s Management Plan, as well as for the updating of the 2025-2030 Management Plan.
CONTEXT
Founded in 1908 by Camillo Olivetti, Ivrea represents a significant example of 20th-century urban development and architectural theories in response to industrial and social transformations, including the transition from mechanical to digital industries. It stands as an innovative, world-class experience in industrial production that paid specific attention to the well-being of local communities. Since July 2018, the site has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Management Plan of a Site coordinates the activities of knowledge, protection, and conservation of the site, with the ultimate goal of cultural enhancement by ensuring its interpretation, presentation to the public, and direct or virtual fruition. The process of updating the plan involves analyzing past results and implementing a series of actions to disseminate the plan’s contents and objectives (community development), in order to stimulate the active participation of local communities and key stakeholders.
ACTIVITIES
The activities included in the community development pathway feature:
- The 2022/2023 edition of the Academy on UNESCO Designations and Sustainable Development(held from March 21 to 24, 2023).
- Support and complementary workshops for the analysis and update process of the Management Plan, aimed at the entities within the management structure and the main stakeholders of the Site.
