Fondazione Santagata has begun to work on the adjustment of the Management Plan of the UNESCO site “Ivrea, industrial city of the 20th century” with the support of Fondazione Santagata’s researchers.
The activity is carried out within the project “Ivrea, città industriale del XX secolo: promozione, valorizzazione e sostenibilità” funded according to the Law n.77 of 2006.
CONTEXT
In 2008, in occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Olivetti company, the City of Ivrea and the Fondazione Adriano Olivetti had the idea to propose the nomination of “Ivrea, industrial city of the 20th century” as UNESCO World Heritage. Ten years later, on July 1st 2008 the site was included in the World Heritage List.
Founded in 1908 by Camillo Olivetti, Ivrea represents a significant example of the theories of urban development and 20th century architecture, responding to the industrial and social transformations of the times, including the transition from mechanical to digital factories. It was an innovative experience of industrial production worldwide, especially taking into consideration the welfare of local communities.
The Management plan of the “Ivrea, industrial city of the 20th century” site coordinates its knowledge, protection and conservation activities, and its ultimate goal is to valorize its culture by assuring its interpretation, presentation to the public and direct or virtual fruition. During and after the UNESCO nomination process, the Plan had been revised and adjusted a few times.
Fondazione Santagata will verify the site management’s results and impact on the territory and on its main stakeholders, ahead of the upcoming update of the plan.
GOALS
The goal of this work is to gather and analyse all the information regarding the first years of the site’s management, in order to adjust the Management plan according to the 2030 Agenda’s Sustainable Development Goals and to the indicators established by the document Culture 2030 Indicators di UNESCO.
Moreover, a few dissemination activities will be carried out in order to share the plan’s content and goals, so as to encourage the active engagement of the local community and the main stakeholders.
