15 October 2025 – The 9th Edition of the “Academy on Cultural and Natural Sites as drivers of Sustainability and Global Citizenship” has officially come to a close, marking another important milestone in the Foundation’s international training activities dedicated to the intersection of cultural and natural heritage, sustainability, and global citizenship.

This year’s edition — newly titled “Academy on Cultural and Natural Heritage as Drivers of Sustainability and Global Citizenship” — represented an evolution of the programme, expanding its focus beyond UNESCO-designated sites to include all heritage places as catalysts for inclusive and sustainable development.

After an intensive online seminar led by international experts, participants from across the world gathered in Sardinia from 7 to 9 October 2025 for the on-site workshop, organised with the support of GAL Sulcis.

The three-day programme combined field visits, case study exchanges, and collaborative learning sessions, fostering dialogue between professionals, institutions, and local communities.
Key moments of the workshop included visits to the coastal vineyards of Sant’Anna Arresi, the Montessu Archaeological Site in Villaperuccio (UNESCO World Heritage), and the historic Tonnare of Carloforte and Portoscuso, alongside discussions on topics such as:

  • Valuing and sustaining cultural landscapes
  • Revitalising identity and local knowledge for cohesion and innovation
  • Safeguarding coastal communities and ecosystems
  • Empowering cultural entrepreneurship for regenerative economies

The Academy concluded at the Cantina di Santadi, with institutional greetings, participant presentations, and a wrap-up session highlighting the key insights gained throughout the programme.

With its 9th Edition, the Fondazione Santagata Academy reaffirmed its commitment to advancing global training and cooperation on the role of heritage as a driver of sustainability, creativity, and social innovation.
