25 May 2026 – The European project Democracy in Action expands its international network of cultural exchange and moves into a new phase.

Following the DiA survey conducted by the research team of Fondazione Santagata, which gathered around 400 responses from over 40 countries, and after the announcement of the first workshop in Izmir (September 2026), we are pleased to present the second exchange workshop in Skopje (November 2026).

The workshop in Skopje

As part of this trajectory, three organisations have been selected to take part in the second international workshop, titled “Futuring New Worlds”, which will take place in Skopje, North Macedonia, from 11 to 14 November 2026, in collaboration with Lokomotiva – Centre for New Initiative in Arts and Culture.

The selected organisations are:
  • Semmelweisklinik (Vienna, Austria)
  • KONTEJNER (Zagreb, Croatia)
  • Ziemniaki i (Warsaw, Poland)
The selection reflects their strong commitment to innovative curatorial practices and their capacity to engage young people through the arts. The activities are part of Curating in Context 5, an international programme for critical reflection in the performing arts developed by Lokomotiva.

Artistic practices and active citizenship

The Skopje workshop addresses key questions in contemporary cultural policy: how to bring young people closer to contemporary artistic languages and how to foster social engagement through curatorial practice.

The working sessions adopt utopia as a method of inquiry. Participants engage across ecological, pedagogical, political, and gender perspectives to rethink the role of youth in shaping society. This approach enables the exchange of practices and contributes to the consolidation of a transnational network of independent cultural actors.

The Fondazione Santagata team warmly thanks all organisations that contributed to the research by sharing their experiences. This transnational engagement highlights the urgency of developing more inclusive and sustainable democratic models through culture.
