Fondazione Santagata in Brussels for the international conference “Cultural and Natural Heritage for Preparedness and Resilience”
26 June 2026 – Fondazione Santagata in Brussels to join the international conference “Cultural and Natural Heritage for Preparedness and Resilience”, held at the BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts. The event, organized by the UNESCO Liaison Office in Brussels, marks the final conference of the RESILIAGE project, funded by the European Union.
Taking place during a period of extreme heat affecting large parts of Europe, the conference offers a timely reflection on the relationship between heritage, communities, and resilience in the face of growing environmental and social challenges.
A central question guides the discussions: do we protect heritage, or does heritage protect us? The event brings together key stakeholders from international organisations, public institutions, researchers, practitioners, and local communities, all engaged in exploring how cultural and natural heritage can strengthen societal resilience, particularly in relation to preparedness, risk reduction, adaptation, and recovery.
The discussions highlight the urgent need for more integrated approaches linking heritage management with broader resilience strategies, especially as cultural and natural sites across Europe and beyond face increasing pressures from climate change and other emerging risks.
