27 March 2025 – Fondazione Santagata hosts an AADF delegation for a tour on sustainable tourism models in UNESCO sites.

Fondazione Santagata is coordinating a two-day tour focused on best practices in the sustainable management of cultural heritage and tourism in UNESCO sites for a delegation of the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF).

This initiative is part of the ongoing work on the Destination Management Plan for the Castle of Berat, a strategic document aimed at strengthening the site’s tourism development and conservation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The programme includes meetings with experts and institutional representatives to explore innovative governance models that balance tourism growth with heritage conservation. Among the key activities, the delegation visited the Santa Chiara Lab at the University of Siena and met with Terre di Siena Lab, leading institutions in the sustainable management of UNESCO territories. They also participated in site visits to four UNESCO-listed locations in Tuscany—Val d’Orcia, Siena, San Gimignano, and Pienza—to engage in direct exchanges on successful approaches to integrated cultural and landscape heritage management.

Fondazione Santagata extends its gratitude to the institutions and professionals involved for their valuable contributions and knowledge sharing, essential elements for the success of this initiative.
