We are working on the revision of the Strategic Plan carried out in 2019 for the Royal Museums of Turin, in order to realign the objectives and actions previously identified and rework them in line with the planning for the three-year period 2021/2023.
Context
The Royal Museums of Torino, result of a merger into a single compendium of the Royal Palace, Royal Armory, Royal Library, Galleria Sabauda, Museum of Antiquities and Royal Gardens, constitute with their capital of architecture, collections and offer of services to the public, one of the largest museums in Europe.
On 11th January 2019, Fondazione Santagata was entrusted with the drafting of a Business Plan with the aim of defining a rational and sustainable management model from the economic point of view of the resources of the Museums, which requires a review process for the three-year period 2021/2023.
Partner
The project was developed on behalf of the Royal Museums of Turin as part of a collaboration with the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, which is interested in supporting the implementation of the strategic development of the Museums with an economic contribution.
Impact
The Strategic Plan outlined in 2019 provided quantitative and qualitative tools useful to estimate the return of the amount agreed with Compagnia di San Paolo, to be reinvested for the benefit of future strategic projects, through a rationalization of costs and revenues of the MRT for the three-year period 2019- 2021.
In support of the Plan, indications were provided for the progressive monitoring of the results obtained by the proposed actions, to be implemented through a periodic study of economic and social impact through direct/indirect and induced expenditure generated by the MRT, with the aim of strengthening management control and future developments.
The pandemic event from the spread of COVID-19, which arose in 2019, has necessarily and radically changed the scenario on the basis of which the Business Plan was drawn up, with the need to proceed, in agreement with the Compagnia di San Paolo, to a review of the actions planned for the assumed time horizon.
The planned remodeling will be functional to the implementation of the new Strategic Plan for the period 2021/2023, for which the MRTs require specialist support, for measuring the impact of the emergency, with particular emphasis on economic sustainability.
The assignment relates to the revision of the Business Plan in order to realign objectives and actions in the light of the social, cultural and economic impacts of the measures to prevent the contagion of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among the activities object of the study, we include a part of the analysis of the current economic balance sheet of the Royal Museums and a part of indications for the rationalization of expenses and the identification of actions for additional revenues, whose summary documents will be aimed at the remodeling of the Business Plan.
